It seems that we take a lot of things for granted.  As I was reading back over today’s Bible Bit for the Bible Bit Podcast, I was struck by the truth that the vast majority of us go to be fully expecting to wake the next morning.  How interesting that is to say the least.  We have no promise of tomorrow.  We don’t deserve the opportunities that a brand, new day brings but yet without thought we make plans for tomorrow, often without ever consulting God, the One that gives you every tomorrow.  As we close our eyes in sleep, the thought that tomorrow would never come, doesn’t enter most of our minds.

Though I anticipate tomorrow’s arrival, unfortunately I don’t usually anticipate the glorious appearing of our Great God and Savior Jesus Christ.  This stung my heart a little.  Because I know that we are to live in expectation of His coming but truthfully, I think on most days I would be surprised if that was the day He chose to come back.

This realization of expectations that weren’t guaranteed led me to contemplate the expectations on which I can depend.  I can live expecting God’s presence to surround me; His joy to envelop me, His provisions to bless me, and His love to cover me with blessings.  So, today I am going to live expecting the goodness of God and try to remember that every day is a gift, one I don’t deserve.
