A Personal God

Recently, I was shopping at a large bookstore – not even a religious one – and I couldn’t help but notice the vast array of Bibles they had for sale.  There were so many to choose from, and I was blown away!  I’m not even talking about the different versions that are out there now.  I’m simply talking about the covers of the Bibles alone.  There are countless colors, styles, patterns, pictures, and textiles of covers that are available now, and I was amazed by that!  There were some more masculine ones and feminine ones that I especially loved!  Then, there are so many other ways to personalize a Bible like having it engraved or choosing large print or one where you can add sermon notes.  Not to mention the digital way to keep a Bible on you at all times using a mobile phone, tablet, laptop or practically any of the latest gadgets!
That really got me thinking about a couple of different things.  First, God’s love is so personal.  Every relationship He has with the more than seven billion of us is unique and personal.  Thinking back to the Bibles and the three of us at Woman at the Well Ministries, I would choose a pink or purple girly-type Bible cover, when Kim would choose something more on the classic side, and Erika might choose one that is more earth tones.  There is a Bible cover to fit us all, and God’s loves fits us all!  Uniquely and perfectly for us.
David prays to God in Psalm 17:8, “Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings.”  Isn’t that an absolutely wonderful thought?  We are the apple of God’s eye!  Then Matthew records what Jesus said in Matthew 10:30“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”  He loves us so much that He knows and cares about the exact number of hairs we have on our heads!  He is our best friend, and His relationships with each of us is as unique and special as we are!
Second, I thought even though all of those Bibles looked so different on the outside, the one and only Word of God is in each one.  His Word remains the same, no matter what the cover may look like!  His Word remains and will never change.  II Timothy 3:16-17 tells us with certainty, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
God is personal. Our relationships with Him are personal and unique, however, His Love will never change.  He was, is and always will be with us!  Hebrews 13:5b:  “For he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”  Isn’t God just amazing?
