It is Enough

Luke 22:38b: “And He said unto them, It is enough.”

When is enough really enough? Sometimes in our lives we feel that circumstances and trials are going to overtake us. Sometimes it seems that we are going under, but as a child of God we realize that we are never going under because we have Jesus and He is always enough. Perhaps you are going through something right now that is frustrating and overwhelming you. I have good news. Christ has said, “It is enough.” Now, what does that mean, you might ask? Does it mean the trial or temptation will cease? Does it mean that your situation will not worsen? No, what it does mean is that God is aware of the situation and has everything under control, and He is enough to see you through, lift you up and over your cares, and provide for you your every need.

Let’s take a deeper look into His phrase, “It is enough.” In II Corinthians Paul sheds some light on what it means to be dealing with a difficult situation for an extended period of time. Paul explains that for his own good he was buffeted by a “thorn in his flesh” though he had sought the Lord three times to have it removed. Paul revealed that through this unfortunate circumstance in his life, Christ was working out his good in him. Paul was able to live Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Oh, if we could only grasp the faith that is packed within this verse. Our lives would be completely transformed if we but understood that God loves us so deeply that He is always working in our lives to produce the very best for us and in us.

II Corinthians 12:9 reveals yet another truth to us that clearly defines Christ’s statement, “It is enough.” “And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee.” Christ has spoken and He has said that His grace is sufficient for your every need. Oftentimes we think the best thing for us is to have our trial, temptation or struggle removed, but God knows best and sometimes that is not His plan. But always His plan is to see us through, lift us up, and carry us over our burden. His grace; “it is enough!”

Perhaps your need seems really great. Maybe you are facing a financial crisis or a situation that looks hopeless. Philippians 4:13 says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” “It is enough.” God has promised to supply your every need and His endless riches and His limitless supply back these words. He has promised and He will deliver.

Maybe your situation requires a miracle. Perhaps the “giant” you are facing is bigger than you are. Oh, my friend, take courage. Just like David, you can be victorious over the giants in your life because the battle is not yours. It belongs to the Lord (I Samuel 17:47) . David fought His battle in the strength of the Lord fully confident that God would give him the victory. The giant fell powerless before him as David’s faith grew strong. “It is enough” when God is on your side. Mark 9:23 says, “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” Your miracle is on the way if you just believe that you might receive.

But perhaps the greatest meaning of God’s phrase, “It is enough” can be found in the complete payment of sin given to us by the blood of Jesus Christ. Romans 3:23 tells us, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” This lets us know that each of us are in need of a Saviour. Praise be to God that Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” No greater love has ever been bestowed upon any of us than the love Christ gave to us as He shed His blood to pay for our sins. “It is enough” that Christ shed His blood for us. Hebrews 10:10 says that “we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Our salvation is sure and complete, needing nothing from us but a faith that is strong and true. His payment; “It is enough.”

When Christ is all you have, then “it is enough.” You don’t need anything but Christ to make it in this world or in the next. No matter what your need or how your circumstances seem, Christ on the scene is the perfect answer and the perfect fix. He is not only enough; He is all you will ever need. His supply is endless. His grace is sufficient. His mercy goes the distance and His love is strong and true. Rest assured, my friend, because with Jesus Christ as your Saviour and guide, “It is enough.”
