Believest thou this?

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” (John 11:25-26).

What a question! “Believest thou this?” There is no more important question in the world, for upon that question hangs the answer to life’s most important decisions.  The most important decision you will ever make in your life is the decision to accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour, for with that acceptance comes life everlasting. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10). Believest thou this?

If you believe, then is your life displaying that belief? In our verse in John 11:26, Jesus says, “whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die”. We’re called to belief in Jesus, but we’re also called to live in Jesus. Are you living in Him? When we come to Christ, we become a new creature. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (II Corinthians 5:17). As a new creature, our lives must display that change! Displaying the change brought about by faith in Christ is the key to living and believing.

As Christians, we should want to live lives that show off our beliefs. The Bible says that God will supply our every need (Philippians 4:19).  Believest thou this? If you do believe, do those around you see you constantly worrying about money? What does that tell them?

The Bible also says that we can do all things in Christ’s strength (Philippians 4:13). Believest thou this? If so, do your neighbors constantly see you struggling to accomplish your tasks, or do they see you walking through your days with the tasks God has set before you, accomplishing each one?

Jesus teaches us to love our neighbors as ourselves (Luke 10:27). Believest thou this? If so, do those around you see you caring for the needs of your friends and neighbors or living unto yourself? What does that tell them?

The Bible even teaches us to be careful when we entertain strangers, because we might just be entertaining angels and not know it (Hebrews 13:2). Believest thou this?  If so, are you kind to those you run into in the Post Office and those ahead of you in line at the grocery store, or are your rude and impatient? What does that tell them?

This amazing question, “Believest thou this?”, has huge implications for our lives. It calls us to a consistent and authentic faith – one that lives out what we believe. Ask yourself this question as you go about your every day lives. Ask yourself this question as you read you Bible in the morning. If you answer with an affirmative, then your life must reflect that answer.
