Song: “Sweet Hour of Prayer”
By William W. Walford
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief,
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare,
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
The joys I feel, the bliss I share,
Of those whose anxious spirits burn
With strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
Where God my Savior shows His face,
And gladly take my station there,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To Him whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His Word and trust His grace,
I’ll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
- Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
May I thy consolation share,
Till, from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height,
I view my home and take my flight.
This robe of flesh I’ll drop, and rise
To seize the everlasting prize,
And shout, while passing through the air,
“Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!”
VERSE: James 5:16, “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
So many times, it is our thoughts, our words and our behaviors that are making us sick. They are keeping us from a right relationship with God. Whether we are physically sick or just spiritually sick we are still feeling the negative results of sin in our lives. But the Bible says that we are to confess our faults. Why? This gives us a chance to own them, to get rid of them, to gain forgiveness where needed and to have an accountability buddy to help keep us on track. If you want an effective prayer life, start by confessing your sins. He is ready to forgive! Remember Jesus loves you. You are loved.
Prayer: Oh Lord, bring to my mind the things I need to confess. Clean my heart and fill it with Your love, Your grace, and Your goodness. Help me to be solely focused on You. Keep me in Your Word and bring Your Word to my mind. May my life be a living testimony of Your redeeming grace. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
