Song: “He Set Me Free”
Albert E. Brumley
Verse 1
Once like a bird in prison I dwelt
No freedom from my sorrow I felt
But Jesus came and listened to me
And glory to God, He set me free
Chorus
He set me free, He set me free
He broke the bonds of prison for me
I’m glory bound, my Jesus to see
Glory to God, He set me free
Verse 2
Now I am climbing higher each day
Darkness of night has drifted away
My feet are planted on higher ground
And glory to God, I’m homeward bound
Verse 3
Good-bye to sin and things that confound
Naught of the world shall turn me around
Daily I’m working, I’m praying too
And glory to God, I’m going through
VERSE: John 8:36 – “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
As Christians, we often live below our privileges. I think we forget that we are a child of the most High God. As such, we should live with the peace that knowing what God says He will do He does! The Bible tells us that Jesus loves us (John 3:16) yet we let our insecurities steal our joy and make us feel unloved. Scripture reveals that sin no longer has control over us (Romans 6:14) yet we continue to give in to temptation and ignore the power over sin Jesus has given us. God’s Word reminds us that all our sins are forgiven, past, present and future, when we place our trust in Jesus and ask Him to forgive us. Yet, many Christians live a defeated life allowing satan to fill our minds with regret and lies making us feel unforgiven. It is time that we, God’s children, stand in the love, power and forgiveness that God has made available to every believer. We need to claim the promises of God, enrich our lives with His Word and fortify our souls through prayer. We need to live our lives free of condemnation (Romans 8:1) and filled with joy and peace. Christ died so that we might live life and live it in the abundance of His blessings, provision, joy and peace (John19:10). Jesus loves you. You are loved.
Prayer: Father, thank you for the freedom that comes with Your forgiveness and love. Lord, thank You for saving my soul and making me whole. Help me to live each day in the joy and peace that you intend me to live. Direct my feet, guide me, instruct me and use me in Your service. Give me eyes to see the beauty and blessings you give me daily. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
*Sunday and Wednesday encouragements are written for our friends in Assisted Living, who we are unable to see regularly, due to COVID. We pray they are a blessing for you as well!
