Song: “Bringing In the Sheaves”
Knowles Shaw
1 Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve,
Waiting for the harvest and the time of reaping —
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
Refrain:
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
Bringing in the sheaves,
bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
2 Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows,
Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling breeze;
By and by the harvest and our labor ended –
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves. [Refrain]
3 Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master,
Though the loss sustained our spirit often grieves;
When our weeping’s over He will bid us welcome –
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
VERSE: Galatians 6:10, “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
As Christians, we are called to be Christlike. One way we can demonstrate our likeness to Christ is to go about doing His work and spreading His love. This is accomplished by taking every opportunity to help others. There are many instances in each of our days that allow us to be a help or a hinderance to others. We have the occasion to choose the nice word or the harsh word when we speak to others. We have the choice to lend a hand or neglect a need. We have the privilege to pray for another or to watch them suffer. All these choices are yours to make. Every day you can purposely do good or you can miss many opportunities to be a blessing to others. Today, choose to do good. Jesus loves you. You are loved.
Prayer: Father, speak to my heart and soften it. Fill it with Your grace and Your mercy so that my words will encourage and lift others. Make me an instrument of Your peace. Use me to show Your goodness and Your love to others. Help me be Your hands and Your feet to a lost and dying world. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
*Sunday and Wednesday encouragements are written for our friends in Assisted Living, who we are unable to see regularly, due to COVID. We pray they are a blessing for you as well!
