God is so many things to so many people. He is all things to all people, and He is everything to me. I love Him so much and can never thank Him enough for everything that He is for me. I know exactly who He is because of my relationship with Him. I have walked with Him day in and day out since I was eight years old. But no matter how “old” you are in Christian years, we can always benefit from a friendly reminder of a few of the characteristics of God, so here is a refresher course!
Psalm 50:10-11: “For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.” God is…sovereign.
Deuteronomy 33:27a: “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”
God is…eternal.
Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
God is…unchanging.
Psalm 139:8: “If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.”
God is…omnipresent.
Genesis 18:14: “Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”
God is…omnipotent.
Proverbs 15:3: “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.”
God is…omniscient.
Hosea 14:9: “Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.”
God is…wise.
Leviticus 20:7: “Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.”
God is…holy.
Exodus 9:27b: “The LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.”
God is…righteous.
We need to act like Him! Of course we cannot be all these things – we shouldn’t want to be. Only God can be all things, but we can be holy just like He is. With God as our guide, we can live holy lives and our actions will be in the center of God’s Will. Act like Him because He is perfect and wants to help us in everything that we do!
