Forever and Today

” But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: He is their strength in the time of trouble .” Psalm 37:39

For many people, the day that they accept Christ is a day that is more important than their birthday, more memorable than an anniversary. It is a day that marks the most important decision that anyone can make – the decision to accept Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Saviour and to begin that amazing journey of a life walked with Him. But so often we fall into the trap of the devil of forgetting that while Christ is our Saviour forever and into eternity, He is also our Saviour at each and every moment of each and every day. ” But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: He is their strength in the time of trouble ” (Psalm 37:39). Jesus Christ is our salvation. ” Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life ” (John 5:24). When we accept Him, we are promised everlasting life with Him. But that is not all, my friends. We are also promised that He will be with us always. That means that whenever we need Him, He is there. Whenever we call out to Him, He is there. Whenever we feel alone, He is there. Jesus Christ is not just our Saviour for eternity, but He is our Saviour for today.

Call unto me . In Jeremiah 33:3, God tells us to ” Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. ” We are promised that if we call upon Him, He will answer us. In whatever situation we find ourselves in – from making a decision regarding which dinner is better for us to which job apply for – God has the answer. He is the answer. ” Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you ” (Jeremiah 29:12). When we call upon God, through prayer, He comes to us. ” Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me ” (Psalm 50:15). We are promised that no matter what trouble we are in, we can call upon God, and He will deliver us. Jesus Christ is not just our Saviour for eternity, but He is our Saviour for today.

Fear thou not. ” Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness ” (Isaiah 41:10). ” And the LORD, He it is that doth go before thee; He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed ” (Deuteronomy 31:8). Whenever we need God, He is there. We need not be afraid or dismayed, for God promises us strength and help. He tells us that He goes before us, He will never fail us nor forsake us, and that He will uphold us. ” For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee ” (Isaiah 41:13). The God of the Universe will hold our hand. Remember how as a child, when your Dad took your hand, the world just melted away and all was well? It is the same with God. He promises that He is there. He is not just there is the abstract sense, but He is sitting right there beside us holding our hands. My friends, when you are afraid, just ask Him to come and sit beside you and hold your hand. He promises to do so and His hand is sure and steadfast. He not only holds our hand as we pass from this life into the next, but promises to hold our hands throughout our days. Jesus Christ is not just our Saviour for eternity, but He is our Saviour for today.

I am with you. ” I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world ” (Matthew 28:20). With Jesus Christ as our Saviour we are never alone. When we accept Christ as Saviour, the Holy Spirit comes and resides in our hearts and He is with us always. ” And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever ;” (John 14:16). The God of the Universe, in the person of the Holy Spirit, abides with us forever. Jesus Christ, our Saviour, is with us every day. How can we ever feel alone? If we do ever feel alone, it is because we are denying that which is in us. For He tells us, ” I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you ” (John 14:18). He is always there. Psalm 46:1 reminds us of the “presentness” of God, ” God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble “. My friends, Jesus Christ is “very present”. He is with us always and will never leave us, nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Jesus Christ was not just there with us when we came to know Him, but as we walk through this life with Him, He is with us each and every day. Jesus Christ is not just our Saviour for eternity, but He is our Saviour for today.

How comforting is it to know that we are never alone. The God we love and serve is a living, present, active God. He will never leave us and He is intimately aware of all that is going on in our lives. Remember, we are never given more in this life than we can handle (I Corinthians 10:13) because we are given all that we need to handle anything in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the light that we are to follow through our days, ” The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ” (Psalm 27:1). Jesus Christ not only provides us with strength, but He is our shield – protecting us from the attacks of the enemies, ” The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him ” (Psalm 28:7). Jesus Christ is our deliverer, He will come to us whenever we need Him, ” Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance ” (Psalm 32:7).

My friends, in whatever situation you find yourselves in today, call upon God. He will answer you. Listen for the still small voice in your heart that is His answer and follow Him. You’ll be amazed at how He provides for you and clears your way.
