Good News

I have good news!  No, it isn’t breaking news; it isn’t even new news…but it a piece of information that is so vital that I think we all need to be reminded of it.  Here it is:  God knows exactly what is going on in your life every second of every day.  Every step along the way God knows about it and is guiding us through our paths.  God knows all and is all, and He cares all about that every step.  That every mile we drive, that every conversation we have, that every aisle we push our buggy down in the grocery store – God knows about it and wants what is best through everything.

I have to admit something – today I lost my jump drive.  In case you’re not familiar with that, it is a portable way to keep your computer files – much like the floppy disk we used to use years ago.  I would have been upset no matter what I had saved on the drive simply because it is something I use all the time.  It’s very handy, and I keep a ton of information on it.  Luckily for me, about 85 percent of the information saved on it is also saved on other computers.  It’s that last 15 percent that I was extremely frustrated over losing today.  I had been working on a project for Woman at the Well Ministries that was only saved on that jump drive – absolutely nowhere else.  I had been working on it for about two weeks, and I was at a complete loss for words when I realized it was gone for good.

So, I’ve been wondering why, how and where in the world could it have disappeared to.  What was the reason for my losing it?  The truth is I may never know.  But another truth is there is a reason for it.  It may be for me, for you or even for all of us!  I may have needed to learn patience.  I do know one thing – I needed to be reminded who is in charge here.  And guess what?  It’s not me!!  It’s God, and I know that His Will is what is best for me and what I want in my life.  I want Him to guide my paths not me to direct my own.  I want God to guide my every step – He is my light and my salvation.

You know sometimes we – and I am talking to myself here – get caught being, doing and going all the time.  We’re so busy with everything that we automatically plan out our own paths and carve out everything that we think we should do.  We think we’re on the right track until we are stopped by something, and we finally realize that we were being the “pilot”.  I want God to be my pilot – I don’t want to even see the steering wheel!  There is no need – I trust Him and have always done so.  It’s just that sometimes I become a back-seat driver, and that never accomplishes any good!

I challenge you to take a step back and try to figure out whose hands on the steering wheel in your life.  You will see that God does, but you may be trying your best to control that wheel even though His hands are on it.  Just let go and let God.  Not only can He see where you need to be today; His light reaches so far that He can see every day of your life.  Trust Him and you’ll never, ever be disappointed.  Sure, things will happen that you don’t and won’t understand.  That happened to me today.  But when you maintain the mindset that God knows best and you know in your heart that you want God’s Will for your life, you will eagerly let go of the wheel and allow Him to guide you through a wonderful and blessed life.

Now, I purposefully have not mentioned any scripture verses directly throughout this devotion.  I encourage you to search through the Bible for verses that will help you remember how great and all-knowing God is.  Make a list of some of those that really make an impact on your outlook on life.  Memorize them and keep them in the forefront of your mind so you will never be caught driving your own life.  Don’t fear and don’t get frustrated – God is in control!
